WINDOW & DOOR REPLACEMENT

Why Replace Your Windows?

One of the most noticeable improvements that you can make to your home is to replace your old worn out windows with new high performance windows.

Window technology has improved dramatically in the past 20 years. We now have the technology to produce high performance windows that are more energy efficient, water resistant, impact resistant, and have architectural details to enhance the appearance of your home.

All of the Florida Insurance providers are requiring impact protection of all glazed openings to qualify for additional insurance discounts and lower deductibles. Why pay for a shutter device to cover an old drafty window when you can simply replace the window with a high performance impact resistant window?

HBS Inc. has many window and door options to choose from. We offer products made from wood, aluminum, vinyl, and the newest technology of fiberglass. These products are available in all functioning styles to complement the architecture of your home.

Our professional staff is available to consult with you to choose the best products for your application.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE HBS INC. AS YOUR REPLACEMENT SPECIALIST?

The staff at HBS inc. has been installing replacement windows and doors in homes since 1976. We use our own licensed and insured installation crews that are full time employees of HBS Inc. Our crews are motivated to "Do the job correctly" no matter how detailed the installation may be. Our business reputation is on the line with each window that we install.

HBS Inc. has a far different philosophy from the larger home stores that subcontract the labor to independent pieceworkers. "Pieceworkers" are motivated to install as many windows as possible in the shortest amount of time to maximize their labor profit. This is a very bad arrangement for the homeowner. The homeowner has just been sent on a blind date with an installation crew that is only motivated to finish the project as quickly as possible. This subcontracted relationship is the breeding ground for "short cuts" and the "Can't see it from my house" attitude for quality. Remember, the windows and doors will only perform as well as their installation.

The Consulting Process

When you choose HBS Inc. as your replacement contractor you can expect the replacement process to follow this typical flow chart:

  1. A highly experienced sales consultant will visit your home to discuss your needs and make some recommendations for your options. We will take detailed measurements of the products to be replaced.
  2. The owner is invited to visit our showroom to see actual window and door displays and review performance specifications to assist in choosing the desired product for replacement.
  3. An "honest" and detailed proposal will be sent to the homeowner which describes all items to be replaced. The proposal will also define any special job conditions or additional services that may need to be addressed by the homeowner.

WAS YOUR HOME BUILT BEFORE 1978?

EPA lead based paint renovation repair and painting program

If your house was built before 1978, your paint must be tested for lead content. This is a simple test that we perform at no charge to the owner. If no lead is present, we proceed with the normal replacement process.

If lead is present, that homeowner will be advised of their options to hire an independent lead abatement specialist, or use our in-house certified lead abatement specialist. Lead abatement services are highly detailed procedures mandated by the Federal EPA. Any lead abatement services are not included in our standard window replacement service and we will be subject to a separate fee for the lead abatement service.

THE INSTALLATION PROCESS

  1. Our highly experienced crews will protect the work area by moving any furnishings and window treatments and install temporary drop cloths to protect the flooring.
  2. The windows and doors are removed and replaced one at a time to avoid having your home open to the weather during the process. Under no circumstances will we leave an opening unsecured overnight.
  3. The window is removed and the sub-framing is inspected for structural damage such as termites/wood rot/ poor construction. If any structural repairs are required, the homeowner will be notified and given the options and cost of the repair service.
  4. The new window is installed in a bed of polyurethane sealant and shimmed to the correct plumb/level/square orientation for proper window function.
  5. The window is secured with the correct fasteners as prescribed in the window product approval document that is registered with the Florida Department of Community Affairs.
  6. The interior of the window will be professionally caulked with a latex sealant to closest match the existing wall colors. The exterior will be caulked with a finish bead of polyurethane sealant for exposure to the weather.
  7. The home owner is advised to touch up paint over the exterior caulking to avoid future discoloration of the caulking.
  8. The windows are operated and checked for correct function and appearance.
  9. The windows are cleaned and lubricated for final presentation to the homeowner.
  10. The floor protection is removed and the area is vacuumed for debris removal. All window coverings and furnishings are returned to their original locations.
